Happy Eclipse Day, everyone. Normal posting will continue this Wednesday, when I publish the interview with a Nigerian science fiction script writer. However, I didn’t want today to pass by without sharing with you of my two eclipse-related very short stories relating. Enjoy!
Guardians of the Sky
SciFiFri Word: Guard
President Lenrary twirled her cigar in her fingers. Leaning back in her chair, she studied the military officers.
"What sort of Space Force Guardians are you? For two hours a large part of the heartland was covered in darkness!"
"It's an eclipse, ma'am," the general said, "these things are known well advanced for centuries. It's a natural event."
She rolls her eyes. "Well then, if you knew about it, why didn't you stop it?"
It was then that the general knew it was going to be the longest day of his life.
Travelers of the Universe
VSS365 Word: Parched
Teng watched as the two planets came closer together. Already, Cangjie had eclipsed its natural satellite.
It was then the other planet, Bixia, began to swallow the star like a parched dragon.
It was all so beautiful.
Enjoy the Eclipse!
Eclipses are a wonderful reminder of the rich cosmos we live in. It’s more than just what we immediately see and interact with daily. Savor it and never lose the sense of awe of the universe.
I was fortunate enough to witness the totality of the 2017 eclipse. The best photo I have from it is of light from the partially-eclipsed sun passing through tree leaves.
If you enjoyed the two above stories, please consider purchasing my first science fiction novel, Fallen. It is now $0.99 for digital and $19.99 for paperback. The sequel comes out later this year!
